The Partners
The Compagnia di San Paolo is a fully powered private law foundation, according to its Articles of Association, approved in March 2000. It pursues goals of social good, operating in the following main sectors: scientific, economic and juridical research; education; art; preservation and valorisation of cultural heritage and activities and of environmental assets; health; assistance to the socially deprived categories.

In 1563 a group of Turin’s citizens established a brotherhood wishing to help the poor and fight usury: thus the Compagnia di San Paolo was founded. A few years later the Compagnia started non profit pawn broking activity (the Monte di Pietà as it was known). A financial and credit business developed as a result of the Monte's activity and Compagnia spent its profits in assisting the needy.
In later centuries, the Monte di Pietà became an actual credit institution which has recently turned into the core one of the largest Italian banking groups, the Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino. Charity work has continued along side consistently with the changing needs of society.

Following the new legislation introduced by the Carli-Amato Bill in 1991, the Compagnia re-organised: banking and projects aimed at social development became two independent activities. The Bank became a shareholding company (at present Sanpaolo IMI S.p.A.), under the Compagnia’s control. The Compagnia di San Paolo reverted to its original name once again underwriting its mandate and commitment in the charity and non profit sectors.

Our reasons for joining Torino Internazionale

The Compagnia supports Torino Internazionale to contribute to turn the city of Turin into an international landmark in the scientific, artistic and cultural fields: this is one of the most important goals of the Compagnia di San Paolo, just while Turin legitimate its ambition to play an international first-rate role as seat of the 2006 winter olympic games.
This is the reason why the Torino Internazionale Association, as far from its establishment, found out in the Compagnia not only a partner but also a supporter, which appreciates the work method and shares project and aims.
