EVENT
Il Salone dei Mestieri
Thanks to coordination initiatives by Torino Internazionale, the biennial trade fair “Mestieri in Mostra” - www.mestieri.it - was created in 2002; it is based on the model of Lyons‚Äô “Mondial des Metiers.” The trade fair offers young visitors a panorama of traditional and emerging jobs and professions, to help cover the gap in communications between school and work world. In 2003, the fair numbered 200 professionals, 70 exhibitors in 12 thematic areas, and organized 90 encounters, attracting almost 40,000 visitors.

INVESTIGATION
The health services pole
Torino‚Äôs excellent health services system can become a lever for long-lasting development. In 2001, Torino Internazionale began a study of these prospects to “Valorize the city as a health services and research pole of excellence.” The study pinpointed the special aspects of Torino‚Äôs system (strong specialist competences and a great capacity for creating networks), proposing to use the technical-scientific vocation of the area to attract resources for research and development, improve the quality of health services and encourage an economic trickle-down effect.

Torino Internazionale also:

  • Commissioned two research reports on the local education system in 2002: “Formazione per il Terzo Settore” (“Third Sector Training”), curated by SAA (School of Business Administration), which reconstructed the characteristics of vocational and university training for non-profit organizations; and the “Monitoraggio degli studenti / corsisti stranieri in Piemonte” (“Monitoring of foreign students/course attendees in Piemonte”), curated by IPSET, which studied the presence of foreign students as an indictor of Piemonte‚Äôs level of internationalization.
  • Created the initiative “Benvenuto Erasmus”, to improve the hospitality given to foreign students, offering a program of encounters and guided tours of the city‚Äôs art and film attractions.
