INVESTIGATION
The contemporary art system
Torino is a city of the artistic avant-garde. This international role has given us a vital system of museums, galleries, artists, critics and collectors, with a myriad of initiatives promoted by local bodies and private citizens. The project to relaunch the city’s image also counts on contemporary art events that have become famous throughout Europe, as well as the expansion of museums and exhibition spaces. Torino Internazionale has commissioned a study entitled “Arte contemporanea a Torino. Indagine sul sistema locale” (“Contemporary Art in Torino. An Investigation of the Local System”) to photograph the historical evolution of the entire system between 1999 and 2004 and to gather recommendations and solicitations by interviewing leading figures in the sector. The results were presented in a workshop in September 2004.
Partners: CITY OF TORINO, TORINO INTERNAZIONALE

PROJECT
Science center
Torino’s vocation for scientific and technological research has a new location: the Science Center in Parco Colonnetti. In March 2004, Torino Internazionale presented the results of a year-long program of coordination between numerous participants: the project to construct a center (in an outlying area of the city that is undergoing massive upgrading) and a study of the cultural functions which the center can carry out. The project’s objective is to construct an integrated area for research, training and exhibits that is dedicated to scientific study and managed by a foundation. The intent is also to rationalize economic resources, thus giving a unitary sense to the many related initiatives.

Torino Internazionale also:

  • Participated in the creation of LUCI - www.luciassociation.org - (Lighting Urban Community International Association) that has gathered over 30 cities and many international light designers in permanent headquarters to exchange information, projects, knowledge, experiences and contacts concerning city illumination, from urbanistic, environmental, strategic and promotional points of view. Torino, which has gained international fame for “Luci d’artista,” is vice-president of the association, and also manages its communications.
  • Organized the convention “Università e sport del mondo,” in June 2000, which anticipated Torino’s candidacy for the 2007 Universiadi with the ambitious objective of promoting the city as an observatory of the entire university sports system.
  • In 2001 nominated the city as the headquarters of the National Food Safety Authority.
